Discord setup
The StintIQ Discord bot can be installed two ways. Most drivers want the first one; teams that share an active Discord server may also want the second.
Two ways to install
| User Install | Guild Install | |
|---|---|---|
| Who does it | Each driver, in their personal Discord account | A team admin, in the team's Discord server |
| What it unlocks | Race-day DM alerts. /whoami, /next, /link, /fuel in a DM with the bot. |
Team-channel slash commands (/plan show, /next, /team show) in your shared race-strategy channels. |
| Required permission | None — anyone can install on their own account | Manage Server on the Discord server |
| Where to start | Settings → Discord | The team detail page → "Install bot in server →" |
You can do just User Install (every driver does their own — bot DMs work but no shared-channel commands), just Guild Install (bot lives in the team server, drivers /link from inside that server), or both (the bot is in the server AND each driver also has it on their personal account; the most reliable setup).
User Install — for individual drivers
Open Settings → Discord and click Install StintIQ on Discord →.
Discord opens an "Add to my apps" page. Click Authorize. The bot appears as a contactable user in your Discord DMs immediately. No server membership required.
Once installed, generate a one-time link code on the same Settings → Discord page, then DM the bot with /link <code>. The bot replies with confirmation, and from then on you'll receive race-day stint reminders as DMs.
Slash commands available in your DM with the bot:
- /whoami — your next stint across every team you're on.
- /next [team] — the team's next stint (auto-picks if you're only on one).
- /plan show [team] — current active race plan.
- /team show [team] — team roster.
- /fuel — standalone fuel + NRG calculator (no team needed).
- /link <code> — link your Discord to a StintIQ account (one-time).
Guild Install — for teams with their own Discord server
This step is for the team admin (or whoever runs the team's Discord server). Skip this if your team doesn't share a Discord server, or if you're happy with drivers only getting DMs via User Install.
On the team detail page (/teams/<your-team>), click Install bot in server → (admin-only). Discord opens the install flow:
- Pick the Discord server to add the bot to. (You need Manage Server permission on that server.)
- Review the bot's permissions: Send Messages, Embed Links, Use Slash Commands.
- Click Authorize.
The bot appears in your server's member list immediately. It doesn't post anything on its own — it sits there until someone runs a slash command or race-day DMs fire.
Once the bot is in the server, anyone in the server can run the slash commands listed above in shared channels — handy for /plan show in #race-strategy so the whole team sees the projection at once.
Connecting your StintIQ team to a Discord server
Separate from installing the bot, your StintIQ team can be "Discord-Connected" to a specific server — this is what lets the team disambiguation in slash commands ("show me StintIQ teams in this server") work. The team admin handles this via the team detail page's Connect Discord button.
You don't need Discord-Connect to make race-day DMs work — DMs flow regardless of server membership once each driver has done User Install or /link-ed in a Guild-Installed server.
Which one do I need?
- Driver who just wants race-day reminders: User Install. One link, takes 30 seconds.
- Team admin setting up a new team: Both. Tell drivers to User Install on their account, AND add the bot to your team's Discord server for the shared-channel commands.
- Team with no shared Discord server: Just User Install for every driver. Skip Guild Install entirely.
Removing the bot
- User Install: Discord → Settings → Authorized Apps → StintIQ → Deauthorize. DMs stop immediately.
- Guild Install: Server settings → Integrations → StintIQ → Remove. Slash commands stop in that server immediately; race-day DMs continue for drivers who also have User Install.
